After the villa

Inside the archaeological area there are three rural buildings, of which at least two were built in the 18th century and named after the surname of those who owned them before they were acquired by the State Property Agency. We therefore have the Liverani farmhouse, located next to the oil mill and the Turra farmhouse in the residential area; to these is added the building built above part of the cistern. All are built using Roman walls as foundations and in some cases, for part of the elevation that was enhanced by choosing not to restore the modern plaster. These buildings have been the subject of archaeological investigations in correspondence with the site on which they were built, restored and repurposed.

Casale Turra

It features the date 1713 under the sloping roof facing the sea. It extends above the residential areas of the Villa facing the sea and is divided into two levels: the ground floor houses a technical room on the long side and a space intended for the use of the archaeological part that emerged under the floor on the short side.

The upper floor instead houses a baby pit stop set up as part of an international project for the promotion of breastfeeding, carried out with the Sorptimist and Unicef clubs of La Spezia. Also with their support, two small rooms for museum education were equipped.

Casale Liverani

The building uses the opus incertum walls of the wall that delimits the large courtyard, in the portion that separates it from the oil mill area and is adjacent to the oil cellar, that is, the place where the large containers used to store the oil were fixed to the ground. After archaeological investigations were carried out under the floor, it was renovated and used as a permanent museum.

Ex Antiquarium

The construction uses the perimeter of the cistern at the end facing uphill. It is on a single level and has historically housed the Villa’s Antiquarium, a space where archaeological finds discovered during excavations in this area were exhibited. The building currently houses the ticket office and staff offices.
