Before the villa
The spaces occupied by the small and large courtyards have partly overlapped with the remains of a Villa from the end of the 2nd century BC, razed to the floor level and then built, on top of a leveling layer, the layout of the Villa as we know it today.
The oldest Villa, only partially explored, had rooms paved in cocciopesto decorated with marble tesserae that form refined decorative motifs. The remains were covered after the archaeological excavation.
